I already knew the outcome of this film. Second, a dog bone for this model costs approximately $5.00, so the cost for me was minimal. Third, many folks dont know you can actually do Throttle Self Righting without any special gyro's, though gyro's do help minimize the damage that can occur.
The way you can teach yourself a self righting technique, without any special electronic help, is by using a combination of Throttle and Brake to achieve a forward and backward momentum, "rocking" the truck back and forth on its roof top. With enough rocking, the front tire will balloon and catch the ground, causing the truck to flip itself on to the wheels. The Body of the truck must have a slightly rounded top, where it allows for the forward and backward movement.
Apart from the dog bones being damaged, this style can also cause damage to the differential and internal axle pinion.
Though this technique can save you a few moments in the field, walking to flip your truck over manually, it can certainly cost your wallet.
But, what can I say.. it's still a pretty neat trick!
Here is some info on the RC truck I used in the film, straight from the HPi website:
"THE WORLD'S FASTEST
MINI-MONSTER TRUCK!
The Savage XS Flux packs in everything you know and love about the neck snapping, standing backflip-capable Savage Flux! A ridiculously powerful Flux brushless powerplant to provide you with the most menacing speed runs, legendary Savage durability that passes the bashing exam with flying colors, innovative TVP technology for a class leading design, and extreme monster truck appearance and ground clearance to conquer it all.
Oh, did we mention that it fits in your backpack? That's right, the compact Savage Flux XS goes where the standard size Savage can't. At 2/3 the size of a standard Savage, the Savage XS Flux is the perfect size for backyard tracks. The Savage XS Flux is built tough with an all-metal drivetrain so it can handle giant jumps and speeds over 65mph. The 4WD system provides excellent traction on any off-road or on-road surface you can throw at it. And it's all built with legendary Savage toughness so you spend more time driving and less time wrenching.
Pre-assembled from the factory, the Savage XS Flux is ready to go right out of the box, including a 2.4GHz radio system and Flux brushless system. Just add your favorite 2S Li-Po battery pack like the HPI #101941 or #101942 Plazma 7.4V batteries and start driving! If you want crazy performance and speed the Savage XS can also handle 3S Lipo power (see below for details)!
The 65+ MPH Savage XS Flux - The World's Fastest Mini Monster Truck. PERIOD."
