俗稱「斷片酒」的Four Loko於2005年由美國商人研製發售，以酒精、咖啡因、牛磺酸（Taurine）及瓜拿納（Guarana）等4種成份命名，當年以「提神啤酒」作賣點。但營養師提醒，一罐695毫升的Four Loko含60克糖，超出世衞建議的每日游離糖攝取量，飲一罐等於食3碗白飯。有醫生更警告飲得過快過多，輕則傷肝傷腦，嚴重則酒精中毒，有致命風險。
