日本的AV市場面臨衰退危機，對許多男生而言，情況恐怕比禁止看日劇更嚴重。根據日媒《日刊SPA》報導，2008年日本AV產業市場規模是5千億日圓，但2014年已萎縮至4千億日圓，顯示這市場是每年依照相同比例逐漸下降。值得注意的是，2008年AV影片銷售總數是1萬套，2014年則增至2萬5千套，即增加了1.5倍；而2008年AV女優在職人數是5千人，2014年人數則增加到8千人。
