早前「雨傘運動警權報告」指，去年雨傘運動期間，估計有30名記者受襲，而過去十數年香港亦斷斷續續發生記者被襲案，大部分至今仍未能破案，令人關注新聞自由問題。事實上，早在30多年前的1982年已有記者在採訪時被襲，兇徒更大膽連續兩日施襲，視新聞自由如無物。
