行动党元老林吉祥早前宣布从政坛退休，结束超过５０年的政治生涯。从政比林吉祥更久的前首相马哈迪，自然被问及他自己是否也有退休的打算。
马哈迪对此回应说，他还没有退出斗士党的决定。
“可能我不会竞选，但是我现在还不能决定，因为我必须遵从党的决定。”
