前首席大法官扎基自揭是政治干预的受害者，因他于沙巴大学的合约任期被“缩短”了。
扎基向公务员演讲时说，“‘被缩短’和‘被终止’是一样的。”
“没关系，我告诉大学这是明智的决定，为何？因为你的新主席将会是能和部长合作的人。如果这个人能和部长合作，对沙巴大学有好。所以有什么好抱怨的？我个人并不认识马智礼。”
