沙巴团结党正式派出候选人曾道玲征战山打根补选后，党主席麦西慕呼吁巫统等友党找出各自的党员，并说服他们支持曾道玲。
此外，麦西慕还说，请客吃饭的手法已经无法吸引城市选民。
他说，“在比鲁兰市里，如果我们根据投票中心办大型活动，宰牛宴客，在这里是没有效果的，不会有人要出来。”
