古時生男是「弄璋之喜」，生女只會給她「弄瓦」。不過，現今父母不再只視兒子為「金叵羅」，得「掌上明珠」也是喜事。有研究發現孕婦生男生女，其實與他受孕前後的飲食習慣有關，女士於受孕前後進食較高卡路里食物，會較容易生仔。不過營養師提醒，孕婦攝取過量或不足熱量，均對她及胎兒構成危險。
