香港中毒諮詢中心總監劉飛龍醫生稱,發芽、變綠或腐爛的薯仔會有較多馬鈴薯毒素即Solanine(又名茄鹼),若攝入太多會影響中樞系統甚至致命。他懷疑女事主舌頭味覺神經或在食毒薯時受毒素損害,致甜味的味覺(較集中在舌尖)受損,情況罕見,但隨着時間過去受損神經有機會慢慢康復。
