首相马哈迪访华收拾东铁、高铁和SSER油气管工程的烂摊子后，痛斥前朝政府“愚蠢”，签下不合理的合同，导致希盟政府如今面对高额赔偿。
他也表示，不如其他国家的高铁计划，马新高铁计划无法有效地缩短往来两地所需的时间，因此是“没必要”的工程。
“就高铁而言，若距离遥远则能节省时间。（比方说）之前需要8小时，如今只需要3小时。这样一来，你就节省了5小时。”
