1600 pandas will converge at Dataran Merdeka, Kuala Lumpur this Sunday, 21 December at 10:30am to promote creative conservation & sustainable development and in support of WWF-Malaysia’s mission to build a future in which humans live in harmony with nature. There will be a Welcome Launch, flash-mob and Exhibition in over 15 different landmarks including Dataran Merdeka, Tugu Negara, Putrajaya, Batu Cave, Penang, Taiping and Melaka. And, the final destination will be at Publika, Solaris Dutamas Kuala Lumpur. So, come on over and get a chance to be close to these pandas and do your part in helping with the conservation.
The 1,600 Pandas World Tour started in 2008 as collaboration between WWF and Paulo Grangeon, an enthusiastic French sculptor who created the 1,600 papier mache pandas. With over 30 years of experience in his craft, Grangeon created the pandas in various poses, emotions and sizes using recycled paper (paper mache), as a symbolic representation of the amount of pandas left in the wild.
The tour has appeared in more than 100 exhibitions across various countries such as France, the Netherlands, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, Taiwan and Hong Kong. After leaving a massive social media frenzy and strong local participation across the globe, the 1,600 pandas will finally arrive on Malaysian soil for their third stop in the Asian region. Aren’t you excited?
