In this episode of Ignition, presented by Tire Rack, there is big news in the power department: The Infiniti Q50 gets an all-new, 400hp, twin-turbo V-6 with roots in the Nissan GT-R engine. The new 3.0L, direct-injected VR-series bolts to a seven-speed automatic and is good for a 0-to-60-mph run in just 4.5 seconds. This is a seriously quick rear-wheel-drive luxury sedan—but the even bigger news is what’s happening at the front wheels. As an option, the Q50 has a new version of Direct Adaptive Steering, meaning it’s the only car that doesn’t rely on a physical connection between the steering wheel and the front wheels. The steering column is still there to act as an emergency backup, but normally the Infiniti is fully drive-by-wire! The tuning possibilities are endless—which means things could go very well or very poorly. Did Infiniti get it right? If so, this could be one of the quickest and best looking six-cylinder sports sedans you can buy.
