The nominees for the 89th annual Academy Awards ARE IN and we’ve got your full recap right here!
And it’s no surprise that La La Land leads the pack with a record-tying 14 nominations.
Early this morning the nominees for the 89th annual Oscars were announced through videos featuring members of the Academy. Previous Oscars winners including Brie Larson, Jennifer Hudson, and Terrence Howard revealed the nominees in clips played during the announcement livestream.
And it’s safe to say we saw this coming! Buzzworthy musical La La Land scored the most nominations with 14, tying Titanic and All about Eve for the record number of nominations. Other top nominees include Arrival and Moonlight with eight apiece, Hacksaw Ridge, Lion, and Manchester by the Sea with 6 nominations each.
But did your favorite actors and actresses get nominated? Take a look at the nominees for Best Actress.
It’s worth noting that this is Meryl Streep’s 20th Academy Award nomination, breaking her OWN record for the most nominations for an actor ever.
The nominees for Best Actor also include some of your all-time favorites- take a look.
This year’s nominees are somewhat predictable but refreshingly diverse and we’re happy we can now retire last year’s hashtag #OscarsSoWhite.
The coveted Best Picture category sees 9 films up for the award. The nominees include: Arrival, Fences, Hacksaw Ridge, Hell or High Water, Hidden Figures, La La Land, Lion, Manchester by the Sea, and Moonlight.
Meanwhile the nominees for Best Original Song include “Audition” and “City of Stars” in La La Land, Justin Timberlake’s “Can’t Stop the Feeling!” from Trolls, “The Empty Chair in Jim: The James Foley Story and “How Far I’ll Go” from Moana.
