Ariana Grande will perform at NBC's Wicked Concert Special in October
Because who else could sing “Popular” so well?
Ariana Grande will (kind of) be making her return to Broadway next month in an appearance on NBC’s “A Very Wicked Halloween.”
Yesterday it was announced that a Wicked tribute concert will air on the network at the end of October. The special will celebrate the 15 years that the musical has been on Broadway. And, as you can expect, there’s going to be a whole bunch of famous singers featured.
Ariana will grace the audience with her amazing vocals, but that’s not all. A capella group Pentatonix will also be performing, as well as the current cast of the Broadway production.
But really, what’s Wicked without Kristin Chenoweth and Idina Menzel? The original Glinda and Elphaba, who played the leads when Wicked first premiered in 2003, will of course be reprising their roles for the concert. And who knows, we might even get to see them back in costume!
I’m guessing Kristin and Idina have got “Defying Gravity” covered, but it’s still unknown what Ariana and Pentatonix will sing. Given that Ariana made her own version of “Popular,” one of the songs from the musical, it would make sense that she sing her rendition live on stage. But hopefully that’s not the only performance we see from her that night.
Ari herself has expressed how much she would love to be a part of the musical some day. In an episode of Carpool Karaoke: The Series with Seth McFarlane, she said QUOTE “One of my dream roles is to play Elphaba. I would do it tomorrow!”
Well, now it looks like she might be getting her chance! We’ll have to wait until next month to see which songs she performs, but you can find out by watching the special on October 29 at 10 p.m. on NBC.
