Austin Mahone Opens Up About His Father's Passing in Teen Vogue 2014

Mahomies – listen up babes because our dude Austin Mahone has landed one of the hottest covers out there – ah yes, Austin is gracing us with his face on Teen Vogue’s December/January issue’s top spot and you know what, sorry not sorry, we’re totes loving it. The cover shot features Austin going all James Dean on us, rocking a leather jacket with a caption that reads “inside Austin Mahone’s private world,” and to be honest, speaking as someone who’s been covering this talented guy since he got his start, I can honestly say that he’s more open, honest and candid than ever before in the article. The interview went down at Austin’s new house in Miami (right as he was moving in actually) and the YouTuber turned megastar talks about his amazing mom and how she raised him on her own. Austin also really opens up about his dad, who took his own life when Austin was just a baby. About that Austin says QUOTE “it was only my mom and me; because there was no father or siblings,that brought us even closer.” During the interview Austin also showed off a photo of his dad at age 10 or 11 and says that he looks exactly like him –the eyes, the chin and even the hair are the same, or as Austin says they’re like “twins.”
I think we can all agree that losing a parent is very tough but when asking about it, Austin has an incredible outlook. He admits that people do ask him if it’s weird, not having a dad, and he says QUOTE “That’s just how I grew up, and that’s what’s normal for me. I can’t imagine having a dad. I can’t be like ‘Hey dad! Want to go play catch in the yard?’ That would be werid for me to say.” Austin’s mom was married for a bit after his dad passed away, which moved his family to La Vernia, Texas, which is where his life changed completely and he started honing his musical skills and posting YouTube videos. Although his mom’s relationship did come to an end, Austin says that without the move, he wouldn’t be where he is today. His mom has been everything when it comes to supporting him and Austin really appreciates her, and as he explains, he wants to take care of her and QUOTE “be the man of the hosue and make money and provide for [his] family.” Wow.
