The Bersatu supreme council meeting yesterday affirmed the "immediate termination" of the membership of disputed chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad, his son Mukhriz Mohamad and three others last month.
In a statement outlining the meeting held last night, party secretary-general Hamzah Zainuddin said the supreme council also affirmed the decision for Bersatu to leave the Pakatan Harapan coalition, as decided during a meeting on February 23, and to form the Bersatu-led Perikatan Nasional government.
The decision to exit the then ruling coalition, opposed by Mahathir and his supporters, triggered a chain of events which ultimately led to the collapse of the Harapan government after less than two years in office.
