Electoral Watchdog BERSIH has received the prestigous Gwangju Prize for Human Rights five months after being announced as the intended recipient of the award.
The announcement was made in May but BERSIH chairperson Maria Chin Abdullah was struck with a travel ban, rendering her unable to recieve the prize in person. The award was presented to her today by May 18 Memorial Foundation executive director Kim Yang Rae, during a ceremony held today at Vistana Hotel in Kuala Lumpur.
