Camila Cabello’s ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’ duet with Shawn Mendes has been such a huge hit and the Fifth Harmony singer is opening up about who inspired the pop-tune.
Note to all the guys out there who want to date Camila, don’t do her dirty because if you do, well, she’ll turn the heartbreak into a hit song.
Sounds like Camila is taking a note from BFF Taylor Swift’s book! The singer opened up to Teen Vogue about her song with Shawn and revealed that the catchy track is about a guy who pretty much cheated on her. She revealed to the magazine QUOTE, ‘The song is about cheating. Two days before we wrote this song I found out from a friend of mine that the boy that I was ‘talking to’ was also talking to other girls. The line ‘can’t seem to let you go/can’t seem to hold you close’ was about that weird period when you find out you’re being played but haven’t said anything to him yet and it’s awkward and distant…A few days after we wrote the song, I told him I couldn’t do it anymore.’
Good thing she found out about it, because if she didn’t, girlfriend would’ve blindly stayed in a bad relationship and the world wouldn’t have been able to hear such a great song! Speaking of great music, Camila also admitted that Taylor has been such a big influence on her musical career, so is ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’ Taylor-approved? It certainly is! Camila said QUOTE, ‘Taylor and I were texting the other day and she told me she loved the song and was like, ‘Dude, I’m so proud of you.’ My heart fell out of my butt.’
While Camila did not reveal who the song is about specifically, I think we can all rule out her relationship with Austin Mahone. The Fifth Harmony singer said she learned quite a lot from her first relationship in the public-eye.
She said QUOTE, ‘I’ve learned that I don’t want to be as open or public about relationships anymore. In my first relationship, I thought I could hold on to the normalcy of just being like ‘Yeah, we’re dating,’ just like if it were high school and I was telling my friends. But in high school, there aren’t articles written everywhere when you breakup and you don’t have everyone in the school coming up to you and asking what happened or sharing their opinion with you. It didn’t feel like ours anymore, it felt like everybody else’s.’ Yikes, good luck on trying to keep your future relationships private, Camila!
