Cat Cafe in Bangkok Thailand (playing and petting cats at the Purr Cat Cafe Club)

Having visited numerous cat cafes in Seoul, South Korea we jumped at the opportunity to pet, play and interact with fancy felines at the Purr Cat Cafe Club located just off of Soi Sukhumvit in Bangkok, Thailand.

For those who are not pet lovers the idea of marketing a cafe exclusively around the presence of a particular animal must seem like a rather daunting proposition; however, we're far from normal, and as boisterous cat lovers we decided to pay for overpriced coffee, tea, cake and ice cream for an opportunity to spend an afternoon in the presence of some seriously pampered furry felines.

Our entourage consisted of a group of professed cat lovers - each one of us having had cats as pets at some point in our lives.

Unlike the cat cafe we visited in Korea, the one in Bangkok was quite crowded (with people) as opposed to cats. The cat to person ratio wasn't quite as favorable and we had to wait a while to pet certain cats who were receiving attention elsewhere.

However, on the plus side we got to interact with certain breeds of cats we encountered for the first time in our lives. One particular cat, a Maine Coon, sat on our table for an extended period of time to receive adoration/affection. In the future, if we own a cat, I'd certainly consider a Maine Coon - they have a distinct athlete/regal appearance.

Overall, we had a great time (or should I say 'Purrrrfect') visiting the cat cafe in Bangkok. It was a great way to spend an afternoon with my family and it reminded Audrey and I how much we'd like to have a furry little friend in our future home someday when we settle down.

With only a short time left in Bangkok, as cat lovers, we decided to visit the Purr Cat Cafe Club located in Sukhumvit - Bangkok, Thailand - for an opportunity to play, pet and interact with cats in a cozy and quaint environment while sipping on coffee and eating desserts.

For those of you familiar with our YouTube travel channel, you'll remember our many visits to cat cafes while we were teaching English in South Korea. As cat lovers, we simply adored visiting cat cafes with an opportunity to play, pet and interact with them.

When we found out Bangkok had a cat cafe we simply had to go. For those unaware, a cat cafe is a type of themed cafe where cats are the main attraction. When visiting you pay a cover fee (usually in the form of a dessert or a beverage) for the opportunity to watch and pet the cats.

Cat cafes are most famous in Japan; however, many may be surprised to know that the first cat cafe was opened in Taipei, Taiwan back in 1998.
One of the reasons cat cafes have become so popular in recent years has to do with laws forbidding pets in certain apartment buildings and the fact that a demanding urban lifestyle doesn't cater towards owning a pet.

We noticed immediately that there are a number of rules in place to help protect the welfare of the kitties. Before entering a cat cafe you must wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water, and put on slippers to ensure the environment is as clean as possible. You can pet the cats but holding them or disturbing them while they are sleeping is not acceptable. Generally speaking taking photos is fine; however, using your flash is forbidden.

The cat cafe we visited in Bangkok, Purr Cat Cafe is located on Soi Sukhumvit 53 just off of Sukhumvit Road. It's the purrrrfect escape from the hustle and bustle of the city offering a place to relax with cats.

The drinks and desserts available for purchase are more expensive than those at a regular cafe. For cat lovers, this is a small price to pay when you consider the comfort and joy that spending time with cats offers. We can't help but notice all of the ear to ear grins of satisfied customers.

We've certainly always felt happy after spending time in a cat cafe. If you haven't had a chance to visit one we highly recommend it. We know for certain this won't be our last time visiting one as we continue gallivanting around the world:
