The abduction of a 47-year-old Turkish at a parking lot in Kuala Lumpur yesterday, has sparked fears among the Turkish expatriate community in Malaysia.
Turgay Karaman, who stays in Bukit Tunku, was scheduled to meet another Turkish national, Suheyl Ozcelik, and his lawyers at a law firm in Wisma E&C in Damansara at 4.30pm yesterday.
Ozcelik arrived with two others at 4.25pm and saw Karaman's car parked at the parking lot and went to the law firm for the meeting.
The meeting was held but Karaman was not present. Ozcelik made several phone calls and text messages that went unanswered until the meeting ended at 7.10pm.
Suspecting something amiss, they asked the building's security force to view the evening's CCTV recording. To their surprise, they saw four men abducting Karaman, who was shoved into a Nissan Almera car and driven away.
Ozcelik lodged a police report late last night, citing his fear as Karaman was supposed to be a witness in his father's criminal trial in Malaysia. This, he said, followed the abduction of two of his Turkish friends in the country last October, who had been deported to Turkey the next day.
