Bel Air, Beverly Hills, Ventura County, the San Fernando Valley and several other locations in Southern California are unfortunately experiencing extreme wildfires that have caused serious destruction. Thousands of acres have been burned. To give you some reference of just how large the destruction has spread, CNN reported that the fire is 4x the size of Manhattan. Thousands of residents have evacuated their homes and thankfully gotten to safety including some very familiar faces.
Paris Hilton tweeted - "This wild fire in LA is terrifying! My house is now being evacuated to get all of my pets out of there safely. Thank you to all the firefighters who are risking their lives to save ours. You are true heroes!" She also shared a viral video of the flames burning right near the 405 freeway.
Lea Michelle tweeted - "Praying for everyone in LA...grabbed what I loved most this morning and so grateful to my friends for taking us in.." Lea is staying with some of her close friends including celebrity stylist Brad Goreski.
Ariana Grande’s family has also evacuated. Her mother Joan Grande tweeted – “For the first time in my life I have had to evacuate my home... my heart is breaking for all the Californians so sadly affected by the fires!” Ariana posted an insta story saying QUOTE - "Mom and her pups were evacuated this am and are safe. My pups and I are in the clear so far where we are. Praying for the planet and for the people / animals whose homes are being destroyed. Please be safe everybody. Thank you to the brave fighters who are working endlessly to put a stop to this and who are helping people evacuate safely.”
Chelsea Handler wrote – “Just evacuated my house. It’s like Donald Trump is setting the world on fire. Literally and figuratively. Stay safe everyone. Dark times.”
Lionel Ritchie tweeted – “Due to the devastating California Wildfires, and helping family evacuate to a safer place, I unfortunately have to cancel my show tonight. I look forward to returning to the stage this weekend and performing for my fans.”
Chrissy Teigen wrote – “never thought I’d get to actually play what I thought was a hypothetical game of what would you grab if there were a fire. so far all I have is Luna, some limited edition Oreos and my spike tv award.”
Youtuber William Osman posted a video Tuesday morning jokingly giving a house tour in order to try and find some comedic relief in the devastation but it was really sad because his house burned down. He and his wife have set up a GoFundMe page that has already raised over 140k.
Mayor Eric Garcetti has declared a local State of Emergency due to the fact that three of the four major fires burning had 0% containment at the time the percentage was reported by NBC Los Angeles.
Thankfully there are a lot of ways people can help. Although thankfully people have been able to evacuate safely, many animals have been killed and many displaced and left without food so if you want to help the animals that have escaped the fire, the Humane Society of Ventura County is looking for donations which can be made through the Humane Society’s website. Food for horses, goats, donkeys, alpacas, and cats is in high demand. You can also donate to the Los Angeles County Animal Care Foundation. To help people who have lost their homes visit The United Way of Ventura County’s website.
Definitely devastating, and our sincerest thanks goes out to all the firefighters and their families for truly being heroes and putting in overtime to save thousands of lives. From Clevver Headquarters, I’m Drew Dorsey.
