DAP leaders remained tight-lipped on the outcome of a meeting on Tuesday night regarding Australian rare earths company Lynas Corp rare earth refinery and its operations, ahead of a cabinet decision on the plant’s operating license on Wednesday.
After meeting for about three hours at the DAP headquarters, party secretary-general Lim Guan Eng said they had a frank discussion and told reporters to wait for an official announcement.
Energy, Science, Technology, Environment and Climate Change Minister Yeo Bee Yin also declined to reveal more and only said she will issue a statement regarding the issue on Aug 15.
Earlier, Bentong MP Wong Tack had claimed DAP backed his view that Lynas should be suspended, saying that he had garnered support from many party members, including cabinet ministers.
The strong Lynas critic said he and the anti-Lynas groups are prepared for a tough struggle against the Australian company.
