This video continues the unusual food  discovery trail along a small back alley called Jalan Bot at KL's famed Chow Kit wet market. Yes, there is still a couple of last surviving Chinese stalls here that have been around for decades. This Hakka nasi lemak stall has been around for 60 years! The stall operator, Mr Siew, began his culinary journey at 8 years old when he started helping his mum at this stall .Nicknamed and popularly known as “Tai Yuan” ,meaning big eyes, this  self-taught and resilient 70 year old uncle now shares his load with his son and wife. One of the stall's popular servings is the Chinese nasi lemak ! He used to cook his rice in wooden barrels ,but now the wooden barrels supplier is no more  in business! He now uses the usual metal cookers. His  secret recipe makes his rice special, it doesn't crump together. Instead, the rice grains are all separate!
Besides the main pork curry that comes with nasi lemak this stall is actually famous for its typical Hakka dishes such as "char choo yook" ,fried pork in special spices. And also the kangkong. His regular customers come from afar and are those who used to live around here. Those of you who crave for home-cooked Hakka food, must visit this stall soon ! However, sadly, at the end of this video we can hear his wife lamenting that all the stalls around the area will be demolished for new development very soon !
