Demi Lovato is BACK and boy, did she have a lot to say in her first big interview since being hospitalized for an apparent overdose last year. The biggest takeaway? We’re all just human, guys. What’s up everyone, I’m Sussan Mourad for Clevver News and can we just take a moment and appreciate that one of the best in the business is not only back after one heck of a year, but most importantly, HEALTHY at the Teen Vogue Summit in Los Angeles this weekend. It was SO great to see our girl Demi in action and dropping some much need truth about how we treat ourselves. Of course, the 27 year old singer addressed her hospitalization which took place in July of last year. Quick refresh: Demi was rushed to the hospital after what appeared to be a drug overdose. Previously, she had revealed to her fans through her song “Sober,” that she had relapsed in her ongoing struggle with substance abuse. After the incident, Demi took some much needed time off from the spotlight and social media, so having her back this weekend was a real treat. And in true Demi fashion, the “Sorry Not Sorry” singer didn’t hold back her true feelings about what she went through -- even though she did admit, she was nervous!
“I’ve changed a lot,” she said. "What I see in the mirror [is] someone that’s overcome a lot. I’ve been through a lot and I genuinely see a fighter. I don’t see a championship winner, but I see a fighter and someone who is going to continue to fight no matter what is thrown in their way."But the biggest revelation is that Demi wouldn’t change anything that happened to her over the last year, despite the setbacks. "I'm so tired of pretending like I'm not human. That's one thing that I won't do anymore. I would never regret anything. I love the person that I am today."AMEN to that sister! Speaking of fighting.... Demi, as we know is quite the badass in the gym, especially in the boxing ring. I mean…. She did knock out her trainer’s tooth back in March. Luckily, Jay Glazer thought it was pretty cool actually. Whew… A stronger man than me… But Demi also revealed that the gym hasn’t always had a positive affect on her life, which is why she’s stopped stressing over it so much. "Whenever I was in the gym over the past couple years, I was doing it to a very unhealthy extreme. I think that's what led me down a darker path. For me, embracing my body the way that it is naturally was the reason why I took the month of October off from the gym."Demi added that changing the way she thinks about her body has made a huge difference in how she sees herself. Ah yes! Honestly, living for the unretouched photos - cellulite and all! And we’re so glad to learn this all comes from a place of healing for Demi! But… Fans at the summit -- and truthfully, us too! -- wanted to know when the singer is going to get back to well, SINGING! Is there new music in the works??Ok, the answer is yes, kinda. Demi actually played a little trick on her fans at the summit. Take a look. Did you hear that last guy? “NO!” Our feelings too, dude.
Ok, but you might feel better about having to wait once you hear WHY. Demi laid it all out.PLUS, the girl’s been busy! She also talked about getting back into acting and we KNOW you’ve been excited about her upcoming guest spot on Will and Grace. We just loved all the pics from on set back in August! Demi also has a role in upcoming comedy, Eurovision, hitting Netflix in 2020. Her costars include Rachel McAdams, Dan Stevens, and Will Ferrell, who seemed pretty stoked to have the singer on board! So yeah! Demi’s got a lot on her plate right now, but Lovatics need not worry because: Honestly though, Demi is quite pleased her fans are so interested in her work because, as she put it, her personal life has overshadowed her work in the last year, and she’s happy to take the focus back onto her talents. She said QUOTE: "Genuinely I just want people to remember that I'm a singer. I think that a lot of the things I've been through kind of outshined my successes in the music industry or acting now. I just want people to remember that that's what I want to give to the world so please focus on that and not the other things."
