Demi Lovato Replaces Selena Gomez As 2016 Global Citizen Festival Headliner

We all know Demi and Selena have had quite the rocky friendship, but hey, the past is the past, and when duty calls, girls gotta have each other’s’ backs.
Selena Gomez was among many A-lister celebs signed on to perform at the 5th annual Global Citizen Festival, which aims to move world leaders to enact policy changes regarding women's equality, education, health and wellbeing. However, after publicly revealing she would be taking some time away from the spotlight, due to the side effects of her ongoing battle with Lupus, Demi Lovato has agreed to take her place in the lineup with musicians including Rihanna, Kendrick Lamar, Metallica and Major Lazer.
Just one week after Selena’s announcement of her decision to take time off in order to “be proactive and focus on maintaining her health and happiness,” Demi took to Twitter to announce the change of plans in a video, stating the importance of supporting mental health and wellbeing, and how excited she is to help the cause.
Global Citizen founder and CEO Hugh Evans also released a statement about Demi’s new headlining gig saying QUOTE, “Demi has been an incredible ambassador for global health and gender equality campaigns for many years. We are so thrilled to align her artistry and advocacy and have her join us as a headliner at the 2016 Global Citizen Festival in Central Park!”
And along with the star-studded group of headliners, many others are set to make appearances, including Usher, Coldplay’s Chris Martin, Ellie Goulding, and a long list of hosts, including Chelsea Handler, Seth Myers, Neil Patrick Harris and Priyanka Chopra to name a few.
In addition to the cancelled performance, Selena also made the decision to discontinue the rest of her Revival tour dates in Europe and South America scheduled into mid-December. The Global Citizens Festival will kick off on September 24th in Central Park in New York, so be sure to visit the Global Citizens website to learn how to secure a spot under the stars.
