Exclusive Divergent interviews ►►

We're mere hours away from Divergent FINALLY hitting theatres -- and we're wondering what the critics have to say about this highly-anticipated YA adaptation? Well, not the nicest things. Currently, Divergent is sitting at a 26-percent on Rotten Tomatoes, with the New York Post saying that the Shailene Woodley starring flick is QUOTE "a clumsy, humorless and shamelessly derivative sci-fi thriller." Ouch! And then Vanity Fair's Richard Lawson claims that though the movie is full of talent, the movie doesn't really allow them to do much, saying: "None of the talented folks involved with the Divergent film, among them its star Shailene Woodley, its villain Kate Winslet, and its director Neil Burger, can elevate the material to a place where the stakes seem high, or even real, enough to draw us in." Aw man... we're such fans of this first book and the movie, so we're happy to hear that both Shailene's performance -- and Theo James' performance are garnering some of the most positive feedback. In fact, The Chicago Tribune declares that Theo is the "best thing" about Divergent -- which we might just agree with. Also, Entertainment Weekly gave the film an over B+ rating, and praised Shailene's performance as Tris, saying QUOTE "Woodley, through the delicate power of her acting, does something compelling: She shows you what a prickly, fearful, yet daring personality looks like when it's nestled deep within the kind of modest, bookish girl who shouldn't even like gym class." So hey, it's not all bad! And for what it's worth, I saw it and totally LOVED it, and I really think that book fans will enjoy it too -- unless you're close-minded and want every last detail from the book to take place on-screen... in which case, you might never be happy with a book-turned-movie. Great job to the cast for bringing these characters to life! But bringing it back to the debut weekend, we have a feeling that all of these naysayers are not going to stop this movie from dominating the box office. It's been projected that Divergent could earn upwards of 70 million dollars this weekend. WOW. Either way, the excitement for this movie is palpable, and we have to say -- is it too soon to get excited for the sequel already?! I think not.
