The United States Department of Justice (DOJ) has applied to be the custodian of the US$250 million (RM1 billion) superyacht Equanimity.
In a filing to the US District Court for the Central District of California, in support of a US government motion to gain custody of the Equanimity they said that the yacht owners had "kept the Equanimity in a series of foreign location and frustrated the government's efforts to bring this asset to the US.
Accordingly, they moved the court to appoint the government as custodian of the Equanimity and order the claimants to tender the Equanimity into the government’s custody, so that it could be brought to the US and made available for forfeiture.
