Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail on Tuesday said that the Putrajaya court is powerless to nullify child bride marriages because the Kelantanese Islamic laws allow children under 16 to get married with the permission of a Shariah Court judge. In the latest case, a man was fined RM1,800 by the Gua Musang syariah court after it was found that he did not seek the syariah court’s permission for his marriage with a 11-year-old girl.
