Former Prime Minister Dr. Mahathir Mohamad lamented about how he had left the country in shipshape condition but after his two successors took over, the problems began.
He said the he could have chosen to step down as Prime Minister as early as 1998 but that was in the midst of the financial crisis.
Mahathir resigned as Prime Minister in 2003 after serving as the Prime Minister of Malaysia for 22 years. He is the longest serving prime minister in the history of Malaysia.
