Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said the setting up of the Economic Action Council (EAC) is to allow the Government to listen to different views on the economy.
Dr Mahathir explained that the council was not set up earlier as there were other priorities that need to be looked into.
He said this on Tuesday when asked to comment on media and communications adviser in the Prime Minister's Office Datuk A Kadir Jasin’s claim that the council was formed because the existing machinery, especially the Cabinet ministers, cannot adequately handle issues affecting the economy, finance and people's well-being.
