Malaysians In Need of Solutions to Economic and Political Crisis, Not Racial Provocation and Disharmony
KEADILAN today urge the organizer of “Himpunan Rakyat Bersatu” or “Himpunan Maruah Melayu” which is scheduled to take place on 16 September 2015 to focus on finding solutions to the country’s economic and political crisis faced by the people.
Whilst peaceful assembly is allowed under the Federal Constitution and the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012, nevertheless the reason and motive of having the demonstration along racial lines is unwarranted.
It can lead to disharmony and racial discontent, what more when the demonstration is planned to be held in areas with majority Chinese ethnic group such as at Bukit Bintang and Petaling Street.
Worse still, it was reported that certain UMNO leadership has informed that they will be sending party members to join the rally.
The police must act to stem any efforts to racialise events as being displayed by posters in Kuala Lumpur associated with the rally.
Malaysia is facing a leadership crisis. Scandals are mounting. The economy has taken a turn for the worse. It is time that we Malaysians come together to fight against real concerns that are truly plaguing our future.
The ‘red shirt’ rally with clearly racial sentiments, if allowed, will bring down the very essence of value of our society, common decency and sense.
On that premise, KEADILAN will not allow its members to attend the rally.
Today KEADILAN goes down to Bukit Bintang extending our peace message to all ethnic groups in a consolidated effort to save our country as Malaysians of many ethnic groups and religion.
Dato’ Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail
KEADILAN President
