Guangzhou in the south of China, is the birthplace of Cantonese cuisine- perhaps the most well known regional cuisine of China. From dim sum to Cantonese barbecue and roast meats, and wonton noodles to congee- Guangzhou has something to suit all tastes. This is a 6 part series of our exploration of Guangzhou’s delicious food scene.

Guangzhou has a lively food scene- there are restaurants and street food EVERYWHERE. It’s an affordable place to eat well and there is something for everyone. In this video we explore the Liwan district- a historical area of Guangzhou where you’ll find many traditional dishes and heritage eateries that have existed for decades. It’s an excellent place to explore if you love to eat!

Shenji Steamed Vermicelli Roll, No 19, F1, Baoqingshi, Duobao Rd, Guangzhou. Bbq pork cheung fun $8CNY/$1.10USD and beef cheung fun $8CNY/$1.10USD and lean pork and century egg congee $11CNY/$1.50USD

Wen Ji Yixinji, 10 Xuanyuanqiao, 76 Baohua Road, Liwan, Guangzhou.
Half a poached chicken $79CNY/$11USD and 2 x bowls of rice and tea $30CNY/$4USD

Lan Fang YuanLiuLian Dessert (branches all around the city)
Mango sago $15CNY/$2USD, mango sago durian $23CNY/$3.10USD

Guoqiang Congee Vermicelli Noodle, No. 63-65 Fengyuan Rd, Liwan
Beef hor fun, pork and egg fried vermicelli and braised lettuce $54CNY/$7.50USD all up

NB- the best and easiest way to pay for food is via Alipay or WeChat pay- you can link your international bankcard to the platforms easily. To get around we used Amap as Google maps is quite outdated and isn’t necessarily accurate.
