Floods worsen in Johor, thousands evacuated

The flood situation in Johor has worsened with the number of people displaced rising to 5,878 as of noon today compared to 1,591 evacuees recorded this morning.


The State Disaster Management Committee (JPBN) in a statement said a total of 1,575 families have been placed in 54 temporary evacuation centres (PPS).


“Kluang is the worst affected district with 1,952 people placed in 10 PPS, followed by Segamat with 1,431 people moved to 16 PPS."


“Also affected by the disaster are Kota Tinggi involving 1,156 victims, Johor Bahru (1,004 people), Kulai (320) and Pontian (15),” said the committee.
