After a 5-month-long quest to revive the beloved Disney Channel series Girl Meets World on a new network, the show’s creator has officially announced its definitive closure.
Girl came, girl saw, girl met world, and girl is officially movin’ on….
The story of Riley Matthews will no longer be one to tell as the coming-of-age series Girl Meets World just wasn’t able to land a new home. The show’s creator Michael Jacobs announced that the show’s attempt to land a spot on a new network has officially failed following the show’s de facto series finale nearly five months ago.
The news was announced via the Girl Meets World Writers Twitter account just yesterday, stating QUOTE, “I wasn't able to find a new venue for the show. I'm sorry. We brought our best and hope we made you think and feel. Until next time. Thanks.”
The show’s finale aired on January 20th, appropriately titled “Girl Meets Goodbye”, where Riley’s mom Topanga landed a job opportunity in London. In the process, every cast member, including the original Boy Meets World crew, helped the family decide to ultimately stay put. Many talks were underway between Jacobs and multiple TV networks to pick the series up where it left off due to the uproar of disappointment expressed by the audience, but the show, in turn, failed to land a new home.
But for those of you wondering what a Season 4 of Girl Meets World would’ve entailed, the writers of the show kept their promise in sharing the premise of the new season in a series of tweets, saying QUOTE, “Season 4 would've shown that what drew Farkle, Lucas and Zay to Riley and Maya was the deep friendship and respect they had for each other. And their relationship was the guide in how to meet the world. Especially our current world. Because to find love, friendship and respect must be at the center of it. Cory and Topanga always knew that. So, as you all meet this world, we wish you friendship, respect and love. Oh, and Auggie and Ava were forever.”
The writers concluded with a bittersweet ending statement that read, “All of us at BMW and GMW have loved bringing you these stories. We hope we have taught you to dream, try and do good. Class dismissed.”
So here’s to the end of an unforgettable era, but much like Boy Meets World, I have no doubt that although Girl Meets World is off the air, it will forever live on in the hearts of many. I know this news isn’t easy to grasp, but if you can gather up your thoughts, I’d love to hear what you think about the show’s final statements, so get to talking right down here in the comments, and after that, be sure to click right over here to check out Zendaya SLAYING 24 Karat Magic on a brand new Lip Sync Battle.
