At a press conference yesterday treasury secretary-general of the finance ministry Irwan Serigar Abdullah said all basic needs products are zero- rated, he said traders may be taking profits and the government is taking steps to strengthen enforcement to ensure prices are maintained at a reasonable level.
He added that inflation in Malaysia is one of the lowest in the region and dismissed claims that the cost of living in the country was high, giving the example of the difference in the pump price of petrol in the UK as compared to Malaysia.
