For all of you already mourning the end of Game of Thrones after the next season, today is your lucky day! HBO has officially picked up a pilot for a prequel spin off show based on the series.
The Hollywood Reporter explained of the concept for the prequel series QUOTE, “the project chronicles the world’s descent from the golden Age of Heroes into its darkest hour.” Fans of the show are already dissecting this hint and many are theorizing that the plot of the prequel could revolve around the legend of the Night King, aka: the leader of the Night’s Watch, who ushered in the dark era known as The Long Night.
And HBO’s cryptic logline for the show all but confirms that theory, as it states QUOTE, “Only one thing is for sure: from the horrifying secrets of Westeros’ history to the true origin of the White Walkers, the mysteries of the East to the Starks of legend...it’s not the story we think we know.”
The prequel series takes place thousands of years prior to the current plot of the show, and Game of Thrones writer George RR Martin WILL help develop the series, meanwhile ‘Kick-Ass’ and ‘Kingsman: The Secret Service’ writer Jane Goldman is writing the pilot.
HBO has previously stated that any spin off of "Game of Thrones" would not air for at least a year after the final season of the current Game of Thrones, which means it’ll probably be a couple years before the pilot for the prequel series drops. But STILL -- we’ll take anything to give us hope that the show WILL go on, just with a totally different cast and plot.
And in other Game of Thrones news, star Emilia Clarke, who plays Daenerys Targaryen, aka: Khaleesi, on the show, penned an emotional goodbye to her character and the series that made her a household name. In her post she wrote QUOTE, “Hopped on a boat to an island to say goodbye to the land that has been my home away from home for almost a decade. It’s been a trip @gameofthrones thank you for the life I never dreamed I’d be able to live and the family I’ll never stop missing” followed by a broken heart emoji and the hashtag “last season it is”.
Talk about some bittersweet news for Game of Thrones fans all around! But let’s focus on the sweet, because the prequel news means we’ll still be able to get our Sunday night GoT fix, and that’s definitely something worth celebrating.
Alright so now I wanna hear what YOU guys think of the prequel news -- are you super excited, or are you still so upset that the show is coming to an end that you can’t even THINK about a prequel right now?
