Get ready to see Katniss and company like you’ve never seen them before – LIVE ON STAGE!
That’s right my friends; Lionsgate announced on Friday that they had teamed up with the Netherlands based “Imagine Nation” and would be turning the popular Hunger Games franchise into a theater production.
However, don’t get TOO excited yet, because this will all be going down in the UK only, so unless you feel like making a trek or you already live there, this is something you might not get to see happen IRL. Guess we’ll just have to wait for it to pop up on YouTube, or if it’s successful, we’ll wait for it to come overseas.
Also, its gonna be awhile before any of this happens because The Hunger Games theatrical experience won’t debut until summer 2016. And the people putting this together aren’t messing around – they’re building a whole new custom theater just for this next to the UK’s famed Wembley Stadium.
The press release says that the audience will actually sit in a 360-degree rotating auditorium that turns from set to set ,,,and That sounds awesome!
And obviously no word yet on who will be starring in it, or how they’ll divide the show up. Fitting three books, or four movies, into one stage production seems very complicated, but we have faith that they’ll do it justice.
So if you were already getting bummed about saying goodbye to Hunger Games, this should hold everyone over after the last movie comes out in 2015.
The whole production will be overseen by award-winning producer Robin de Levita, who said
“I’m thrilled to be partnering with an innovative next generation studio like Lionsgate on a property that resonates so deeply with global audiences. The theater is a fantastic medium to bring the many meaningful layers of Suzanne Collins’ writing to life.”
But will there be music?! Guess we’ll have to wait and see! Im hoping for an epic Peta Katniss love anthem.
