Bersatu deputy president Ahmad Faizal Azumu has expressed his surprise at Muhyiddin Yassin's announcement that he will not defend the Bersatu president post in the party election next year.

He added that the delegates were also surprised and many wanted him to continue to lead Bersatu.

He said Bersatu's top leadership will hold further discussions on the matter.
