IGP confirms North Korean diplomat immune from arrest

The North Korean diplomat wanted in connection with investigations into the death of Kim Jong-nam is immune from arrest by local police.
In confirming this, Inspector-general of Police Khalid Abu Bakar however said Malaysia will adhere with all procedures and protocol involved to question the man identified as the second secretary at North Korea's Embassy in Kuala Lumpur.
"He has immunity so that's why I said we have to follow the protocol," Khalid told reporters when met after the Kuala Lumpur Police Contingent's Chinese New Year function here.
According to Article 29 of the Vienna Convention, a recognised diplomatic agent is not liable to any form of arrest or detention.

Khalid also said that Malaysian police have submitted an official letter of request to interview the diplomat, along with another North Korean citizen identified as a staff of Air Koryo.
"If you have nothing to hide you don't have to be afraid," he further said when pressed on possibilities that North Korea will not cooperate with the probe.
