How to make Indian MASALA CHAI (spiced milk tea) at home | Recreating Indian street food
Chasing a Plate Cooks is all about recreating street food we have eaten on our travels in our home kitchen. The series kicks off with masala chai (spiced milk tea) which we have filmed in Kolkata and Delhi in India and Kathmandu in Nepal (not masala chai, just chiya- plain milk tea). We recreate what we have seen on the street in our backyard kitchen. #streetfoodathome #withme #indianstreetfood

How to make masala chai at home...

Ingredients
Water
Milk
Black tea leaves
Spices- we used cardamom and cinnamon
Fresh ginger

Method
1. Boil the milk and water.
2. Crush the spices and ginger and add to the milk and water mixture.
3. Boil the mixture for 3-5 minutes and let the spices infuse the liquid.
4. Add tea leaves and sugar to taste.
5. Raise the liquid to a boil and then turn down the heat- do this about 5 times. This allows the tea to release its flavour.
6. Strain the spices and then pull the tea (like in the video) to create a frothy, foamy brew.
7. Serve immediately.

We’re Thomas and Sheena, food and travel fiends. We travel full time, hunting for the BEST local food in the world to showcase via our YouTube videos. Food is a window into a country's culture and one of the most exciting ways to get to know a place.

We're all about eating what and where the locals eat. You won't find food that's been created merely to be social media worthy on here- no rainbow bagels, gold leaf soft serves- just genuine, authentic food that tastes incredible.

From street food to mom and pop restaurants, we want to show you the best and most authentic food we find on our travels.
