We may be counting down the last few weeks of 2017, but there’s still plenty of time for one more viral trend to sweep the Internet, so feast your eyes upon the Invisible Box Challenge.
I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but for all you hopefuls out there, defying gravity is much easier said than done…
Step aside Mannequin Challenge, Ice Bucket Challenge, and all other viral internet challenges, because the all-new Invisible Box challenge is here, and it’s taking the world by storm one step at a time… literally.
This gravity-defying challenge went viral in just minutes all thanks to Texas high school cheerleader Ariel Olivar, who demonstrated the stunt during her high school’s football game, where she perfectly executed the illusion of stepping over an invisible box, and before you ask me to demonstrate, don’t, because this stunt is exactly as impossible as it sounds:
The saying “don’t try this at home” clearly didn’t resonate with the internet, but thankfully Ariel broke down the steps on The Today Show, so try this at your own risk. First, she said, you have to show that there really is nothing in front of you. Then, you pat the air about a foot off the ground, but not too high. Once you put your foot on top of the box, your hovering leg has to stay in the exact same place. When you're jumping over with your other leg, your foot that's going over the box has to be higher than your standing foot.
Many people attempting to demonstrate the challenge aren’t exactly executing as gracefully as Ariel, however one Anderson University football player managed to perfect the stunt just as flawlessly as Ariel, so maybe it’s an athlete thing? But one reason why people may be having trouble with the trick is because it isn’t just your legs that are responsible for getting it done – it’s your entire body AKA your glutes, back, shoulders, and everything you forget to focus on during your once-a-month gym sesh. Trainer Amelia DiDomenico also revealed that in addition, the muscles on the side that's hovering also have to be firing to hold your leg in the air (especially your hovering glute).
Soooo I don’t know about you guys, but I’m thinking it’s best I pick back up on the next viral Internet challenge, you know, just to spare myself a pulled muscle or my dignity. But I want to know if you guys have attempted the invisible box challenge, and if so share all your tips and tricks down here in the comments, and after that, be sure to click right over here to check out the new Ugg heel boots that are all the rave(?) right now. Thanks for joining me on Clevver News, I’m your host Drew Dorsey and stay safe out there, kids.
