Now considered the deadliest mass shooting in US history, people everywhere are left completely shattered as the death toll continues to rise.
At around 10:10 P.M. local time, authorities began responding to reports of an active shooter at the Route 91 Harvest Festival on the Las Vegas strip. Performing at the time was Jason Aldean, who fled the stage immediately after realizing just what was going on.
As it turns out, the shooter was firing indiscriminately from the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino down towards the crowd, who at first thought the noise was just fireworks. However, in just four and a half minutes the shooter managed to take the lives of over 50 innocent festivalgoers who were simply looking to have a fun, carefree night celebrating country music.
As we all know by now, the night took a devastating and heartbreaking twist, and today, people everywhere just aren’t sure how to cope with the tremendous loss of life.
In fact, early this morning Jason Aldean himself took to Instagram to share his reaction to last night’s events. He wrote, QUOTE, “Tonight has been beyond horrific. I still don’t know what to say but wanted to let everyone know that me and my crew are safe. My thoughts and prayers go out to everyone involved tonight.” Jason then went on to say that what hurts the most is that the crowd came out to enjoy what, QUOTE, “should have been a fun night.”
Other country stars in attendance last night were understandably shaken up from the shooting as well, with Chris Young taking to Twitter to share with fans, “Spent I don’t know how long on the floor of a trailer behind the stage… know multiple people are dead.” Later he added that he just feels lucky to be alive.
Although many had trouble finding the words in the wake of such a horrible event, other celebrities came forward and sent their condolences to Vegas and the country music community as well.
Kelsea Ballerini tweeted, “Just sad. And so sorry for the fans who came to sing and dance and be free and happy. Thinking of everyone there and my friend @Jason_Aldean.”
Khloe Kardashian was another celebrity who was distraught upon hearing the news, tweeting out, “This is heartbreaking to learn about! Things have got to change!”
Images from the scene left Sam Smith completely devastated, telling his followers, QUOTE, “Horrifying scenes in Las Vegas. My heart and soul is with all the victims & their families.”
Ruby Rose was also visibly upset by the footage coming out of Vegas early this morning, sharing, “It is horrific just to see the videos.. I can’t imagine what you are feeling.”
And while it’s true that many of us definitely cannot imagine what it’s like to be at the center of such a dangerous and scary situation, other celebrities felt it necessary to acknowledge those who ran towards the danger while others ran away from it.
Chloe Grace Moretz took to Instagram to say, QUOTE, “My heart goes out to everyone affected by the horrific events that occurred in Las Vegas, please stay safe and to the Las Vegas police department who ran into a field of open fire, you are all true hero’s.”
Mariah Carey, Kendra Wilkinson, Celine Dion, Paris Hilton, Sheryl Crow among many, many others were also sure to send their thoughts and prayers, with many demanding that change happens soon to prevent events like this from happening again.
And, of course, all of us here at Clevver News are thinking of the victims and sending prayers out to Las Vegas during this extremely difficult time. I’m Emile Ennis Jr. and thanks for watching.
