Katy Perry BANNED From China Days Before VS Fashion Show & Here's Why

Katy Perry has been banned from China and will not be able to perform at this year’s Victoria’s Secret Fashion show. Chinese officials have allegedly rejected Katy’s visa applications after locals accused her of being involved in political and racist incidents. Models Gigi Hadid and Irina Sharipova also had their visa applications denied for the same reasons.
Katy was reportedly initially informed that she’d be able to go to China, but the government reversed its decision after an incident from 2015 was brought to their attention, in which Katy wore a glittery dress with sunflowers on it during a performance in Taiwan. The dress ended up being controversial and causing outrage amongst the Chinese people because the sunflower had been adopted a year before as a symbol for anti-China protesters. Katy also waived a Taiwanese flag during her concert to show her support for the country, which is apparently another no-no for China due to the ongoing issue of Taiwan’s independence.
According to sources, Chinese officials also comb through celebs’ social media accounts before granting them access to the country, in order to see if they’ve done anything they would deem offensive to China, which is how Gigi and Irina got banned from the country. Harry Styles will reportedly replace Katy’s performance, and Miguel will also reportedly be performing at the show.
