[KiniNews] Anwar Ibrahim is citing an RM214.2 million contract awarded to a company linked to then-prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad in the former’s defence against a defamation suit by the latter.
The prime minister is relying on the defence of justification (ready to prove allegations in court) by citing, among others, the award of the fibre-optic contract to Opcom Cables Sdn Bhd.
He stated that Mahathir's family members, including his sons Mirzan, Mokhzani, Mukhriz, and Mukhriz's wife Norzieta Zakaria, served as directors of Opcom Cables.
Additionally, Anwar mentioned Kencana Petroleum, which he claims belonged to or is controlled by Mokhzani.
He pointed out that despite being newly established in 2001 without a known track record, Kencana Petroleum obtained a major fabrication license from Petronas when Mahathir was prime minister, suggesting a bailout.
