[KiniNews] Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has warned of stern action against any parties hoarding rice in the country.
Anwar said that he had given instructions to Agriculture and Food Security Minister Mohamad Sabu to ensure that the ministry’s enforcement monitors the matter and takes actions against violators.
"There are those who hoard, keep their rice, anyone who dares to carry out this act to capitalise on the people’s misery will face the full brunt of the law,” he said.
Anwar who is also the Minister of Finance added that the government was always looking for avenues to resolve the issue of rice but acknowledged that some time was needed.
Meanwhile, in a separate story, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Islamic Affairs) Mohd Na'im Mokhtar was visited by Ipoh Timor MP Howard Lee, who came under fire recently for citing a Quranic verse in one of his TikTok videos.
Na'im said the meeting was a constructive one, adding the duo shared an understanding that Islam must be upheld as the religion of the federation.
