#KiniNews: Police escort who assaulted e-hailing driver has been disciplined, says IGP; LFL responds

[KiniNews] A police escort who allegedly assaulted deaf e-hailing driver Ong Ing Keong has faced disciplinary action within the force, said Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain.

On top of that, he added that the officer was investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code for causing voluntary hurt.

Razarudin added that the disciplinary action was taken after the police’s integrity and standard compliance department wrapped up its internal investigation into the matter in June.

Meanwhile, Lawyers for Liberty said a criminal charge, rather than a mere disciplinary action, should be instituted against the police escort personnel.

LFL adviser N Surendran said the case does not encompass only a police disciplinary matter, it involves an assault and battery captured clearly on video.
