Making a Murderer is making more waves in the criminal justice system and Brendan Dassey could be a free man.
: Ok, ok, ok. Who knew that all that Netflix binging would actually affect something in real life?
In a 91-page decision from a federal judge, Brendan Dassey will be a free man in what could be, 90 days. Dassey, if you don’t remember, was spotlighted along with his uncle Steven Avery in the Netflix documentary series Making a Murderer. Just a 16-year-old when photographer Teresa Halbach went missing and was murdered, Dassy admitted to the crime along admitting his uncle’s involvement.
He was then sentenced to life in prison. Fast forward to now, Brendan has spent 10 years in prison and unless the state initiates a retrial, Brendan will be free in 90 days.
So what changed? Well, the judge’s decision came down to Brendan Dassey’s interrogation where he admitted to the murder. The judge wrote in his decision on the subject of the interrogator’s actions saying QUOTE: "These repeated false promises, when considered in conjunction with all relevant factors, most especially Dassey's age, intellectual deficits, and the absence of a supportive adult, rendered Dassey's confession involuntary under the Fifth and Fourteenth amendments,"
Basically, the judge is saying there were a lot of wrong protocols going on when Dassey was being interrogated – therefore making his confession inaccurate.
And this is great news for not only his family but for fans of the documentary series. The producers/directors just started production for the 2nd season just last month. So there is no doubt in my mind, that Brendan’s release will be featured along with new revelations with this on-going case. And perhaps, Brendan’s release will also affect Chris Avery’s prison sentence as well. Unfortunately, there isn’t an exact date for when the new episodes will be released – but I hope it’s pretty damn soon!
So now I want to know what you guys think of this new turn in the Avery case! Let me know your thoughts in the comment section below! and after that click here to check out our verdict in the “kylie & tyga: split or commit” debate on a new episode of Debatable! I know, it’s not as dramatic but still, we gotta get to the bottom of it! Thanks so much for hanging out with me on News Feed and be sure to subscribe!
