Dr Mahathir Mohamad remains unapologetic for using the word “keling,” which is considered derogatory to Malaysian Indians.
The former premier said that it was the language (in Kedah) and he had used the word 'keling' since he was small.
He was responding to MIC treasurer-general S Vell Paari who had described him as a racist for using the word when criticising the Election Commission during a fundraiser last night.
The word “keling” was not considered offensive when it was first conceived in the 15th century. It is commonly used among northerners, especially the older generation.
