Bayan Baru MP Sim Tze Tzin said Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak should respond to the “avalanche of accusations” from media outlets around the world before Parliament is dissolved to make way for the 14th general election.
He said he had done his research and there were 20 foreign media outlets that had reported on 1MDB recently from not only Western countries, but also Thailand, the Middle East, China, Singapore, Philippines and others.
The Communications and Multimedia Ministry on Sunday warned that it had identified several online news portals and media outlets that allegedly propagated "fake news" on the 1MDB scandal to tarnish Najib's image.
Najib has denied any wrongdoing on his part in the 1MDB scandal, and attorney-general Mohamed Apandi Ali has also cleared him of misconduct.
