The family of Laraniya Wilbert and several NGOs  submitted a memorandum to IGP Khalid Abu Bakar urging police to investigate the death of the four-year-old child, which the family claimed was due to the hospital's lack of necessary care.
They asked for Laraniya’s case to be investigated under section 304A of the Penal Code, which covers death by negligence.
Laraniya Wilbert was allegedly brought in dead at the Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital in Klang on March 20, though the family has disputed this.
Laraniya's mother Prem Sri had reportedly said that her child was alive when she left her with the hospital's medical personnel.
The hospital had released a statement that the child was already dead when she arrived at the hospital.
The statement said: "Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital, Klang would like to state that the patient named Laraniya Wilbert was brought in an unconscious state to the Emergency Unit of HTAR at 9.30pm on March 20, 2017 with body spasms.
"Initial examination of the patient found that she showed no signs of life and CPR was initiated by emergency medicine specialists. The measures, however failed to resuscitate the patient,"
